No doubt, Sen. Ned Nwoko is the most prepared Senator that Delta North has ever produced since 1999 and unarguably one of the best in Nigeria . This claim is supported by the quality and depth of his bills, motions and overall contribution to issues on the floor of the senate.
He has endeared himself to many Nigerians, they want to listen to him talk, journalists run after him daily, television stations always want to him in their daily programmes, the leadership of the Senate wants his involvement in numerous task, the executive formulate policies from his suggestions.
Sadly, in his home state, he is demonized and vilified for no just reason. Sen Ned Nwoko was able to study the political climate in Delta State and smartly devised means to avoid being gaged by the system.
During the campaigns, they offered to be his financier, he turned the offer down and asked them to give the money to candidates that were in need of it. They suspected him but he was undeterred.By the grace of God, he won his election and was sworn in.
After the inauguration, the state government offered SUVs to members of the National Assembly from the state , Sen Ned Nwoko turned it down, according to him, it was unnecessary since they are federal lawmakers whose needs are captured in the federal budget. To him, the state should use the funds for other developmental projects for the people.
As if that was not enough, the same state government that complains about huge wage bill again offered to be paying ten million naira (?10m) to each National Assembly member from Delta State, Sen. Ned Nwoko turned it down. He never wanted to be caught in the web of extravagant spendings when the masses are asking for a cut down in government spendings. Sen Ned Nwoko understands the fact that state government has no business paying federal legislators.
Then the issue of Anioma state came up, they became more unsettled and started making moves to thwart the initiative which they view as a direct affront to their political agenda.
They decided to fight the senator through various means including propaganda, exclusion from party programmes, sponsored attracts and using state powers to sabotage his projects.
The ball is in the court of the people, they are to decide who truly means well for them. But the truth remains that Ned means well.
