Donald Trump won the Nov, 2024 presidential elections in America for three reasons. First, he got the highest electoral votes from blacks than any republican presidential candidate had ever got. Secondly, the low income whites voted massively for him. Thirdly he contested against a candidate who had to come in late into the game because President Biden was found to be lacking in good health to contest against a power-hungry candidate like Trump. The first two categories of people – blacks and low income whites – bought Trump’s gimmick that he would expel latinos who, according to him, took over jobs which then blacks and low income whites-should have been doing. They also took in the gimmick that they would build a wall across the Mexican - American boundary to deny Latino immigration into America. Then of course, Trump was aided by the Jewish vote and Jewish sympathizers who relished Trump’s support for Israel. So, the election came and Trump triumphed. Buoyed on by this victory, Trump has begun to swim in delirium and delusion. He has become so drunk with power that he now behaves like the king of the world. First, he has forgotten several of his vote catching promises. He promised to stop the Russian- Ukraine war 24 hours after Jan, 20, 2025, his swearing in date. He is now three months off –target. Secondly, he promised that if the hostages held by hamas were not released by Jan. 20, 2025, “all Hell would be let loose.” 59 of these hostages are still in Hamas captivity, three months-on. The expulsion of “illegal” immigrants from America has resulted in only a few in totality being expelled out of the over 11 million immigrants (Trump's figures) that are in America. The wall of Mexico is yet to be built, and may not be built, because this wall was promised to the US in Trump's first coming, a promise not fulfilled.
The point about Trump is that he is very inexperienced in international affairs and so only to rely on brinkmanship to sell his ideas.
But this is not the character of international politics today. Brinkmanship, bluff, threats - these are not the solutions to international problems. Folks like the Brazilian president seem to understand this when he said that Trump should stop being deluded by power and should realize that he was elected not to rule the world, but to rule America only. He made this statement to rebuff the American "King" when he slammed tariff on Brazilian goods coming into America. Of course, Brazil retaliated. China has followed suit, and so have Venezuela and Mexico.
Furthermore, Trump's economic delusion has carried him into thinking of hurting America's friends and allies in Europe with tariffs and other economic measures even Japan and India are not ruled out.
Geopolitically, and militarily, Trump's delusion of American's super power status has turned him into a doomsday forerunner, saying he can destroy the world 100 times over and over. He will invade Panama, Mexico, Canada, Greenland, all to "make America great again." As stated earlier, all these "macho-talk" are just bravado to cover up Trump's inexposure to the realities of today's international politics. Trump is just like Putin, fellow-travelers in power- drunkenness, trying to stay in power on the pledge of making their countries super-super great. Putin has been in power for 24 years, with nothing to show for it, and now he is in Ukraine to show the world that he is powerful. Yet it has taken him 3 years to prove nothing. Trump says he will destroy the world 100 times over and over, as if America will be spared and nothing will happen to her while others are in ashes. Plain balderdash!!!
The results of Trump's delusions are very clear. First America is losing its grip of the leadership of the world. Secondly, America has lost its grip as leader of the free world. Thirdly, America has lost the respect it had among its allies who are gearing up to protect themselves and forget American help - if the need comes.
Fourthly, and very fundamentally too, America's loss is China's and Russia's gain. America steps out of the World Health Organization, and China steps in! America antagonises Brazil, and the BRICS nations step in to aid their member. America abandons Ukraine, and Europe comes calling, supplying arms by the day. Very soon, very very soon, America, the leader, will sink into the second or third or fourth position after China, Russia and Europe, among the frontline world powers. No one should take this as a pessimistic forecast. For if Trump continues the way he is going, America will not be made great again.
