His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba has warned Asaba sons and daughters of the risk they face if they sell their family land.
His royal majesty warned that any Asaba man or woman that disregards the Asagba in council resolution would be banished from Asaba.
In a verified post from Facebook, the king who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said leasing of land was the only way to protect the inheritance of his people. That land in Asaba can only be leased for 65 years.
HRM Prof. Epiphany Azinge, said; "Asaba land is not my land, it belongs to the people. But it is my duty to protect our unborn children. They must have where to call home. Consequently, any Asaba son who sells land outrightly with disregard to the lease-hold of 65 years resolution of the Asagba in Council will be banished."
The governor has visited me on this issue, the immediate past Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has also visited me on this matter and I explained the situation to them’.
Aniomaonline understands that the directive may face some hurdles as far as implementation is concerned.
Firstly, since the creation of Delta State, many years ago, most Asaba lands had been sold, and this resolution came rather too late.
Secondly, the families of the remaining unsold lands may not obey the resolution of the Asagba in council and may challenge the decision in court.
However, how this will play out still remains in the clock of time.
