The Delta State Public Procurement Council has warned public servants, contractors, and other stakeholders to operate strictly within the confines of the state’s procurement laws as part of efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money in government activities. Addressing journalists in Asaba, the state capital shortly after its meeting, the Chairman of the council, David Igbodo, maintained that strict adherence to the state’s procurement laws is non-negotiable for achieving the state’s development goals.
He warned that procurement officers who flout the rules will face penalties as stipulated by the law.
“Transparency and accountability are fundamental to our procurement system. We urge all stakeholders to abide by the laws and guidelines to ensure fairness and efficiency in all transactions,” Igbodo stated.
He disclosed that the council has resolved to strengthen the legal and institutional framework of the state’s procurement laws to enhance enforcement.
The chairman added that the council also plans to invest in capacity building for procurement officers to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills to uphold the laws.
Also, he said the council is working to revive the state’s e-procurement platform, which will enhance compliance and streamline procurement processes.
“We resolved to ensure the e-procurement platform is fully operational within weeks to support our transparency goals,” Igbodo noted.
He further stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to align with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s agenda, which prioritises accountability and value-driven governance.
“Upholding the law is essential for achieving the governor’s vision for Delta State. Contractors, public servants, and other stakeholders must work together to promote a procurement system that serves as a model for others,” he stated.
