Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili, has presented the 2025 budget estimate to the legislative arm of the Local Government Council.
The budget estimate presented to the local government legislative arm by Ezenyili in Asaba, the local government headquarters is worth N13,795,834,858.19.
Ezenyili said the budget was in line with present realities about local government autonomy as decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, in July 2024 and Minimum Wage Increment.
He said that his administration was constrained to taking radical steps towards harnessing and increasing our internally generated revenue, in line with the administration’s financial discipline.
He stated that the capital expenditure estimate stands at five billion, two hundred and sixty-seven million, one hundred and fifty-five thousand naira, (N5,267,155,000.00) while the recurrent expenditure stands at eight billion, five hundred and twenty eight m i l l i o n , s i x hundred and seventy nine thousand, eight hundred and fifty-eight naira, nineteen kobo, (N8,528,679,858.19).
The council chairman said that his administration had taken a trajectory towards infrastructural development to give the local government the facelift. He said the year’s draft estimate was tagged Budget of Consolidation and Enhancement because of his administration's desire to put some monumental infrastructures on ground.
“To this end, we are desirous to embark on developmental projects that will give this Local Government the facelift it deserves and to ensure a good working environment for the executive and staff of this Council, these includes, new administrative block, new executive complex and others”.
“The revenue base of this Local Government for 2025 fiscal year is predicted on these avenues viz; internally generated revenue drives, statutory allocation from the federation account, Value Added Tax (VAT), Aids/Grants and other capital receipts.
While emphasizing on his commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Oshimili South in line with his campaign manifestoes, he appealed for the speedy passage, of the budget, putting into consideration the economic challenges the nation is going through with regards to our currency devaluation.
The Leader of the Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Okonji Michael, while receiving the budget, said the proposal marks a good beginning of a steady transformation of Oshimili South local government for greater achievement.
He assured the chairman of a speedy consideration and approval of the 2025 annual Budget to ensure that the Executive Arm discharge their duties and relevant functions effectively and efficiently.
