American trained Organic Chemist, Dr Chukwuma Okwuarinma Nwaonicha before his sudden demise on December 24, 2022, was a respected community leader and a core loyalist of the People's Democratic Party, PDP. He was a very committed member of the party in Ward 6 in Ika South Local Government, Delta State. His death was received with a great shock due to how sudden it was.
The challenge at the moment is that the remains of the revered community leader is still lying cold in the morgue as his family members are yet to reach a concrete agreement on the burial plans.
The sad development has raised serious concern among his friends and associates who felt that such awful treatment should not be meted out on a man who distinguished himself both in his career and community development. For the record, Dr Nwaonicha was a former aspirant for the Delta State governorship seat in 2023, and also, a contestant for the office of the Agbor Community Union,an umbrella group of all people. He was a pillar to the Nwaonicha family, a friend to both the young and old people, a team player and church leader.
His concerned friends are using this medium to appeal to the Nwaonicha family of Alihame, Agbor to sheathe their swords and bury their late brother and father.
Meanwhile, it was reliably gathered that one of the former wives of late Dr Chukwuma Okwuarinma Nwaonicha who instituted the case that has stopped his burial, lives in America and has refused to honour court invitations on the excuse that she has no flight ticket to Nigeria. Her reluctant and selflsh attitude was what has led to the continued stay of the body of the revered community leader in the morgue.
However, the immediate younger sister to late Dr Nwaonicha, Ann Nwaonicha who also lives in United States of America has this to say, "The unconcerned 71 year old woman named, Francesca Iwunze who falsely claimed to be my late brother's wife, has continuously lied to the court. She is being empowered by two members of the family, particularly, one of them who is supposed to be the elder in the family. Dr. Chukwuma Nwaonicha is crying out to the family to be buried. He does not deserve this treatment at all. Dr. Chukwuma Nwaonicha’s first son and his sister traveled all the way from the United States, went to the Dein's palace, and were permitted to burry him. Everything was purchased for the burial. But the Hospital in charge of the morgue refused to turn over Dr. Chukwuma Nwaonicha to his first son and the family.
"This is a shame. A prominent man who has worked with the Delta State Government and PDP, serving the people, has been left behind in the mortuary for over two years and forgotten.
