Delta Govt Committed To Ensuring Food Security, Says Onyeme

Delta State Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme has said that the state government is committed to ensuring that there is food security in the State.

Sir Onyeme stated this yesterday at the Conference Hall, office of Deputy Governor, Asaba when he receive on courtesy call Members of Faculty of Agriculture, Dennis Osadebey University (DOU) Asaba, led by the Dean of faculty of Agriculture, Prof . Emmanuel Inoni.

Sir Onyeme commended the institution for identifying with the state government agenda on food security by planning to hold an International Conference.

According to him: "It is heart warming to know that the faculty of agriculture of Osadennis University is identifying with the State government agenda. The coming International Conference is a welcome development and I will be glad to chairman the occasion as requested".

"I want to believe that through this conference, agriculture food production will be enhanced in Delta state and Nigeria."

"We all want to see a Delta State that has more than enough food to feed its population and to even export food to other parts of the world".

The state deputy governor who noted that, a workshop on Agriculture will be holding on March 25, 2025 at Government House, said the workshop is to brainstorm on how to make Delta State come into the world map as a major oil palm plantation belt.

"All these are efforts being made by government to ensure that the State is very secured food wise and cash wise for life to be become better and simpler for the citizens of the state".

" So, what you are doing is a kind of heavy support to the agenda of this administration, and I urge you to keep doing what you are doing while the government will give its necessary support.".

Sir Onyeme who assured members of the Faculty of Agriculture that the state government is committed to give its support to the institution in ensuring that agriculture production is sustained.

Earlier, the Dean of faculty of Agriculture, Prof Emmanuel Inoni, who led the delegation noted that the visit was to intimate the deputy governor of plans to host the first International Conference in the Faculty of Agriculture.

Prof. Inoni said the visit and request by the faculty was important because of the policies of Delta State towards food security and eradication of hunger.

While noting that the deputy governor has been very supportive towards the academic development, Prof. Inoni said; "We know that the Governor Oborevwori led- administration is doing so much to assist farmers in Delta State and we believe that a discuss of this repute will enable us to interface as a government, with practitioners as well as the academic to chat a way towards alleviating the issues of food insecurity in Delta State."

Also the Chairman Organising Committee, Prof. D.C Ike said that the Theme of the forth coming conference is "Building Resilience Against Hunger, Addressing Nigeria's food insecurity Challenges".

He noted that the Faculty of Agriculture is poise to making its mark that agriculture has come to play a significant role in Delta State.
